Studies of Civic Action Among Children and Young Adults:  A Research Synopsis

Many educators and policy makers argue that civic knowledge and engagement are crucial for citizenship and that the process of becoming a knowledgeable, engaged citizen begins early in the life course. In 2008 the Spencer Foundation launched a new initiative titled Civic Learning and Civic Action, which will foster research about three influences on such actions: motivation and other psychological processes, enabling learning experiences and environments, and contextual influences on individual and group actions.
