In cities around the U.S., community members, students, and community-based scholars encounter important emergent questions as federal, state, and local policies shape education. These policies often overlook interactions of education with issues of housing access, commercial and infrastructure development, immigrant and refugee status, and policing practices. As educational accountability pressures continue to increase, the intersection of education and place continues to present new challenges to researchers and practitioners who are interested in collaborative and translational inquiry focused on social and educational justice. By hosting a national conference and a subsequent working meeting, Drs. Jefferson and Kirshner invite researchers and community members to explore topics of place and displacement as they relate to education justice. Also, by facilitating collaborative teams across cities and locales to address the intersection of education and displacement, this grant will facilitate the development of written and multimodal products for academic and public audiences. Conference participants will share new knowledge that is informed by intersectional approaches, examines the relevance of theories of space/place to equity, and explores dilemmas of activism and research.,
