ABOUT SPENCER FOUNDATION

The Spencer Foundation has been a leading funder of education research since 1971 and is the only national foundation focused exclusively on supporting education research. 

POSITION PURPOSE

The IT Director leads the Spencer Foundation’s overall information technology strategy, systems, and infrastructure in a mixed use (Windows and Apple OS) environment. They will promote a learning and adaptive approach to IT, foster collaboration across the Foundation, and provide responsive IT support focused on the needs of end-users.  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or higher with a concentration in information technology or related field with 7+ years’ experience in a nonprofit or private foundation setting preferred.  Proficiency in managing office-wide IT infrastructure and software applications, Mac and PC builds and maintenance, audio visual systems. Experience supporting database management and business applications including, but not limited to SharePoint, Adobe, Tableau, Microsoft GP and SmartSimple or similar products.  Solid understanding of general IT systems, peripherals, and technologies. Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills, independent, and effective in a small office environment. 

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Directing overall IT strategy, systems, and infrastructure,
  • Managing IT department equipment purchases and disposals,
  • Preparing and managing annual IT budgets and forecasts,
  • Serving as administrator for software tools including SharePoint,
  • Maintaining software contracts, user access/permissions, and staff training,
  • Implementing and managing the Foundation’s audio-visual systems,
  • Ensuring end-user support is responsive and issues efficiently resolved,
  • Investigating and recommending new technology tools,
  • Identifying and eliminating potential security vulnerabilities,
  • Maintaining effective relationships with outside IT firm and IT vendors,
  • Maintaining IT documentation and business continuity plans,
  • Developing and upholding IT policies and procedures across the Foundation,
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the CFO.

SENSORY & PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:  Visual and auditory acuity required, and this position requires occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing objects of less than 30 pounds and standing for periods of time.

Starting salary range is $109K – $137K with hybrid work schedule of 2 days per week in office and 3 days remote.
