Who is Our New Senior Vice President, Professor Megan Bang?

The Spencer Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Megan Bang as the next Senior Vice President of the Spencer Foundation in Chicago.

Professor Megan Bang joins Spencer from the University of Washington where she was a faculty member in the Learning Sciences and Human Development department.

 

While at the University of Washington, Professor Bang also taught in the Secondary Teacher Education Program; the Elementary, Early Childhood and Leadership Preparation programs and directed the Native Education Certificate Program. She earned her PhD in Learning Sciences at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on understanding culture, learning, and development broadly with a specific focus on the complexities of navigating multiple meaning systems in creating and implementing more effective learning environments in science education.

She has published in leading outlets such as Cognition & Instruction, Science Education, and Educational Psychologist. She is currently serving on the Board of Science Education at the National Academy of Sciences and the editorial boards of several top journals.

Dr. Bang began her appointment on June 18, 2018.
