8:45 a.m. The Greeno/Gresalfi Case and Discussion of Analytic Approaches for OTL

(Chair: Diana Pullin; presenters: Jim Greeno and Melissa Gresalfi)

The goal of this session is to explore how participants might bring their analytical practices to bear on a common data set. The Greeno/Gresalfi case will be presented first by its developers as a rich description of one analytic approach. Then, we will use this same evidence as a focus for a discussion centered on two types of considerations. First, how would your usual research approaches address the pedagogies and evidence here to analyze or illuminate OTL for the students in these classes? Second, how would your approach to research complement or intersect with that taken by Greeno and Gresalfi and others?

11:30 a.m. Summary of Emerging Themes fromGreeno/Gresalfi Case Discussion

(Diana Pullin)

12:15 p.m. Lunch, Cohibar Room

1:30 p.m. Individual presentations (Chair: Jim Gee)

Each person will give a brief presentation that highlights what, from their perspective, one or more key themes ought to be for a position paper. One way people may want to approach this presentation is to offer a concrete example of what assessment or research on assessment ought to look like from their perspective and to say how this reflects one or more themes for our manifesto.

We anticipate the following pattern for each presentation: 10 minutes for initial presentation; 5 minutes for questions and clarifications; 15 minutes for group discussion addressing the question of "How do you see your work intersecting with the presenter's work?"
